10 Tips to achieve long-term weight-loss success

Think about it – You have to be in the right frame of mind to begin a weight-loss program, and really stick to it, long term.
Be committed – Don’t give up after one bad week; weight-loss is a long process and takes time to change habits.
Be realistic – Set goals that are attainable.  What is it that you want to achieve or improve from your weight-loss.
Patience is a virtue – Sustained weight-loss means losing weight at a recommended rate.  The faster you lose the weight, often means there is a chance of gaining weight back.  So, be patient and persevere.
Exercise! – Find an exercise, or a combination of exercises that you enjoy doing, and schedule them into your day, as you would any other appointment, to ensure you physical fix.
Don’t get confused – Often we will mix up being hungry, when we are actually thirsty.  So, remember to drink a full glass of water, and wait about 10 minutes before delving into a big meal.
Tap into creativity – Take the “boring” our of your weight-loss program by trying new things;  whether you try an unconventional exercise (i.e. kayaking, roller skating) or trying a new veggie each week with an exciting recipe!
Avoid yo-yo dieting – Don’t try unproven diets that don’t have a plan for your long-term weight maintanence.  Remember that in order to achieve success, you have to obtain a new healthy lifestyle.
Support staff – Surround yourself with people who are going to encourage you, and support you through your weight-loss journey.
Hold fast – Be prepared for the up’s and down’s of weight-loss., and always be clear on why you are actually doing this.
