About This Treatment

What is RADIESSE® and how does it differ from HA fillers?

RADIESSE® is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) filler that works in two ways: it immediately adds volume and lift upon injection, then stimulates your body to produce new collagen over the following months.

While hyaluronic acid fillers simply fill space, RADIESSE®'s microsphere structure acts as a scaffold that triggers collagen synthesis. The immediate result is visible the same day; the stimulated collagen gradually builds over the following 3–6 months, extending and enhancing your results.

RADIESSE® is particularly effective for the lower face, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, pre-jowl area, and jawline. It's also FDA-approved for hand rejuvenation, where it restores volume lost to aging. Its thicker consistency provides strong structural support, making it a go-to choice for areas that need lift rather than just fill.

RADIESSE® treatment experience
What to Expect

What happens during a RADIESSE® appointment?

1
Assessment & mapping (10 min)
Your provider assesses your lower face anatomy, skin quality, and the degree of volume loss and laxity. Because RADIESSE® has a thicker consistency, proper placement is critical, we map injection points precisely before treatment begins.
2
Numbing (10 min)
A topical numbing cream is applied and left on for approximately 10 minutes. RADIESSE®+ contains built-in lidocaine for additional comfort during injection. Ice may be applied for further comfort.
3
Treatment (15–25 min)
RADIESSE® is injected using a cannula or needle at the deep dermis/subcutaneous junction. The gel provides immediate structural support and lift. Your provider will massage the area to ensure smooth, even distribution.
4
Post-care & follow-up
Minor swelling or bruising is normal for 2–5 days. Ice helps reduce swelling. Avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours. A follow-up is scheduled at 4–6 weeks to assess your results, if any refinement is needed, it's addressed then.

Common Questions

RADIESSE®, Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients enjoy results for 12–18 months. Because RADIESSE® also stimulates collagen production, some of the structural improvement persists even after the filler itself has degraded. Many patients find that repeat treatments are spaced further apart over time.
No, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, RADIESSE® cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase because it is CaHA-based, not HA-based. This is why placement precision matters significantly with RADIESSE®. At Florida Aesthetics and Wellness, all RADIESSE® injections are performed by experienced providers with strong anatomical knowledge.
RADIESSE® excels at structural areas: nasolabial folds, marionette lines, pre-jowl hollowing, jawline definition, chin projection, and hand rejuvenation. It is generally not used in the lips or tear trough (where thinner HA fillers are preferred) due to its thicker consistency.
Both are biostimulators that encourage collagen production. The key differences: RADIESSE® provides immediate visible lifting upon injection (Sculptra® Aesthetic does not, it is gradual only); RADIESSE® lasts 12–18 months while Sculptra® Aesthetic lasts 2+ years; RADIESSE® is stronger for structural lower-face areas while Sculptra® Aesthetic is preferred for diffuse mid-face volume loss. Your provider may recommend one or both.
Comfort is very manageable. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand, and RADIESSE®+ contains built-in lidocaine for additional numbness during injection. Most patients describe mild pressure or a brief stinging sensation. Treatment typically takes 15–25 minutes.
Yes, combining Botox and RADIESSE® (or other fillers) in a single appointment is very common. Botox addresses muscle-driven lines in the upper face; RADIESSE® addresses volume loss and structural concerns in the lower face. Your provider will assess what combinations make sense for your goals and timeline.
