JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is one of Allergan's original hyaluronic acid fillers, a smooth, cohesive gel engineered to add natural volume to the lips and smooth moderate facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds.

What to Expect

What happens during a Juvéderm Ultra XC appointment?

Consultation & treatment plan (5–10 min)
Your provider assesses the areas you want treated, lips, nasolabial folds, or both. We discuss the volume and correction you're looking for, mark injection points, and agree on syringe count before anything is opened. No surprises.

Topical numbing (10 min)
A topical numbing cream is applied to treatment areas. Ultra XC also contains lidocaine, which numbs further with each injection placed. Most patients find the treatment comfortable throughout.

Filler injections (10–20 min)
Filler is placed using fine needles or a blunt-tip cannula. For lips, product is placed at the border and body of the lip. For nasolabial folds, it is injected along the fold to lift and smooth. You see results immediately.

Results & 2-week follow-up
Volume and correction are visible right away. Minor swelling resolves within a few days. Your complimentary follow-up at 2 weeks allows your provider to assess results and address any areas needing a touch-up.

Ultra XC uses HYLACROSS technology and is thicker, providing more volume, better for patients wanting fuller lips or more noticeable enhancement. Ultra XC also treats nasolabial folds, which Volbella does not. Your provider will recommend the right product based on your anatomy and goals.
Both use HYLACROSS technology, but Ultra Plus XC has a denser, thicker gel specifically designed for deeper nasolabial folds and more severe facial wrinkles. Ultra XC is softer and versatile, it treats both lips and moderate folds. Ultra Plus XC provides more structural lifting power but is not indicated for lips.
Clinical studies show results lasting up to 12 months. Duration varies based on the treatment area, how much product is used, and your metabolism. Lips typically metabolize filler faster than nasolabial folds. Most patients return every 9–12 months for maintenance.
Ultra XC contains lidocaine, the XC stands for cross-linked with lidocaine, which numbs the treatment area with each injection. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. Lip injections are more sensitive than facial fold injections. Most patients describe lip filler as a manageable pinching sensation, not painful.
For lips alone, most patients use one syringe. For nasolabial folds, one to two syringes is typical depending on depth. If treating both areas in one session, two syringes is common.
