Understanding the Concern

What are superficial veins and how are they treated?

Superficial veins, spider veins, and broken capillaries are dilated small blood vessels visible near the skin surface, most commonly appearing on the face (nose, cheeks) and legs.

These vessels become visible when they dilate and sit closer to the surface of the skin. Sun exposure, genetics, aging, rosacea, and hormonal changes are the most common contributors, and they appear most often on the nose, cheeks, and chin. They are very common and are almost always a cosmetic concern rather than a sign of a medical problem.

At Florida Aesthetics and Wellness, visible facial vessels and broken capillaries are treated with laser and light-based vascular therapy. The light is absorbed by the blood inside the vessel, gently heating it so it closes and is gradually reabsorbed by the body, while the surrounding skin is left untouched.

Facial Spider Veins (Telangiectasia)
Fine red or purple vessels most often seen on the nose, cheeks, and chin. They respond well to targeted broadband light (BBL), which closes the vessel without affecting the skin around it.
Broken Capillaries & Facial Redness
Diffuse redness and broken capillaries, frequently linked to rosacea or years of sun exposure. Light-based therapy can calm overall redness and even out the complexion over a short series.
Sun-Related Vascular Damage
Cumulative sun exposure often leaves a mix of visible vessels alongside red and brown discoloration. Broadband light can address the vascular and pigmented damage together for a clearer, more uniform tone.

How we treat superficial veins

Superficial facial veins and broken capillaries respond best to light and laser energy that selectively targets the blood vessels without harming surrounding skin.

BBL HEROic

Best for: broken capillaries, spider veins on face, redness

BBL HEROic (BroadBand Light) is the most effective non-invasive treatment for superficial facial veins and broken capillaries. The precisely calibrated light energy is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in the vessel walls, causing them to collapse and gradually be reabsorbed by the body, without needles or downtime.

Common Questions

Superficial vein treatment FAQ

Visible facial vessels are small dilated capillaries near the skin surface. Common contributors include sun exposure, genetics, aging, rosacea, and hormonal changes. They are very common and are usually a cosmetic concern rather than a medical one.
The light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin inside the vessel, which gently heats and closes it. Over the following weeks the body clears the treated vessel and the redness fades, while the surrounding skin is left intact.
It depends on how many vessels are present and their size. Some areas respond well after one or two sessions, while more diffuse redness may need a short series. Your provider will give you an estimate at your consultation.
Most people return to normal activities right away. Temporary redness, mild swelling, or slight darkening of the treated vessel is common for a few days, and sun protection afterward is important.
Treated vessels are cleared and do not typically return, but the same factors that caused them, such as sun exposure and genetics, can lead to new ones over time. Ongoing sun protection and occasional maintenance help keep results looking clear.
