Recent studies have shown that testosterone implants have been shown to help with many symptoms in both men and women. These implants under the skin release small, consistent doses of testosterone which can provide many benefits without any adverse side effects.

What are Pellets?

Testosterone Pellets are sub-dermal implant pellets which are made of hormones such as testosterone that are then formed into small pills. These pellets are very small, roughly the size of a TicTac.

Function of Pellets

These testosterone pellets deliver a consistent level of hormones into the body and avoid the fluctuating levels which can be seen with both creams and injections.  When compared to conventional methods of hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to have significant improvements in energy level, memory, focus, lean muscle mass increases, sleep pattern improvements, and also an increase in the sex drive.

How are pellets inserted?

This is a simple and fast procedure which is performed in-office with a small amount of local anesthesia.  We typically will place pellets above the hip through a very small incision which is then closed up with steristrips or skin glue.

Side effects of pellet treatments?

The side effects are minor and may include: minor bruising, discoloring of the skin in the area of insertion, possible slight extrusion of the pellet.  These events are rare.

Testosterone in women may cause acne or may increase the production of red blood cells.  To help to prevent extrusion of the pellet, patients are advised to refrain from physical activity for at least 24-48 hours after receiving the treatment.

How Long does it take to see a Response?

The response time with pellet therapy can vary a bit, but many patients will start to see a difference in the first few days, while others may need to wait a week or two.  Some prescription medications can impact the effects of the pellets due to increased liver metabolism.

Longevity of the Pellets?

Testosterone pellets will usually last between 3 to 5 months in women and 4 to 6 months in men. Pellets don’t need to be removed by our practitioners after that time; they completely dissolve on their own.
