BOTOX
Frequently Asked Questions
Botox Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Very low doses of Botox Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines between the brows to form. Botox Cosmetic works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. The effects of Botox Cosmetic are usually confined to the injected region; it does not travel throughout the body.
A treatment with Botox Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes the deep, persistent frown lines between your brows that developed over time. One ten-minute treatment with a few tiny injections relaxes the muscles that cause these frown lines between your brows to form and keeps them relaxed up to four months. Botox Cosmetic has been widely tested and is approved by the FDA.
The results are dramatic and apparent within days. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of the men and women surveyed rated the improvement in their frown lines between their brows as moderate to better. For many, Botox Cosmetic virtually erases these lines.
Unlike surgery, Botox Cosmetic is fast, simple, and minimally invasive, with no downtime or recovery. Most people return directly to work or normal activity following treatment. Within days, they report looking more natural and relaxed. With Botox Cosmetic, they’ll know you’ve done something, they just wont know what.

The Botox for TMJ treatment is typically done in 30 minutes. However, the exact duration depends on the number of injections needed as determined by our board-certified injector.
The cost of Botox treatment varies depending on the number of units needed for the injection, and that in turn varies from a patient to another depending on age, the movement of the muscle, and the size of the forehead For example, Botox for smile lines requires about one to three treatment per year. Botox for wrinkles on the forehead requires more units generally speaking. The cost for Botox for laugh lines varies between men and women, and the degree of their muscle movement. Any authorized healthcare professional can administer Botox Cosmetic. At Florida Aesthetics and Wellness our experienced Nurse Practitioner will administer the treatment to our patients.
Our staff will determine exactly where to administer several tiny injections to achieve the best results. No anesthesia is required, although your healthcare practitioner may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. The entire procedure takes approximately ten minutes. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. It is unlikely you will develop significant side effects, although some people develop slight temporary bruising at the injection site, which can easily be covered by makeup. You may resume normal activity immediately. Within days, you’ll see a marked improvement that may continue to improve for as long as a week and should last up to four months.
Botox Cosmetic relaxes the overactive muscles whose repeated contractions cause the frown lines between your brows to form. So you can frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
No. The frown lines between your brows gradually revert to their pre-treatment appearance.
Botox Cosmetic lasts up to four months.
You won’t need to do much to prepare for your Botox treatment. However, if you smoke cigarettes you’ll need to stop in preparation for your treatment. Smoking can cause additional bruising and interfere with healing. Let your healthcare practitioner know that you smoke and ask how long you should avoid smoking prior to the procedure.
It is also important that you make sure to let your healthcare practitioner know if you have any allergies or are already on any medications. Some medications can cause harmful side effects if combined with Botox. Be sure to tell your healthcare practitioner before the procedure if you take any of the following medications:
- Blood thinners
- Muscle relaxants
- Sleeping aids
- Allergy medications
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen
- John’s Wort
- Vitamin E
- Fish or Omega-3 oils
- Ginkgo biloba
- Ginseng
Botox treatments last up to fourth months. You will only need one treatment to be able to see results. However, you will likely need 3-4 treatments each year to maintain your results. Talk with your healthcare practitioner to determine when to schedule your next treatments.
