Spring into action. Fight wrinkles with Botox!

Spring into action. Fight wrinkles with Botox!

Whether you hear the word Botox and wince, or you have been getting it for years and consider yourself a Botox pro, its important to be informed about the truth behind Botox. The stigma that has surrounded Botox for years comes from many things including celebrity accounts, social media, or just pure lack of education about what it really is. Its often confused with a poorly done face lift, or other surgical procedures done to the face that we often look at and think, “Oh, that is Botox gone wrong.” The truth is that Botox isn’t surgical, and in fact, it has been used on men and women for medical treatments for over 28 years and cosmetically now for 15 years.
 So what is Botox exactly?

Well to be clear, it is in fact, a toxin. Doesn’t sound so reassuring, but it is actually a purified protein called botulinum toxin. Botox temporarily relaxes muscle areas by blocking nerve impulses that trigger contractions, which has the effect of softening wrinkles and changing the expression. It is used in low doses through injections to cause local targeted muscle paralysis to reduce wrinkles temporarily. The treatment lasts for 3 to 4 months. Both men and women tend to start with Botox treatments in their 20’s, however, there is no such thing as too early for an adult. The earlier you start, the less chance you have of facial expressions making irreversible etches in your skin, and the longer you can maintain a youthful and vibrant look.

The Results:

The results are not immediate, they appear gradually to a maximum result after 3 weeks. After about 2 weeks, squinting will become less frequent, consequently, as you squint less, the creases fade. With full treatment, the eyebrows can slightly lift, making the eyes appear more open and the brow more arched. Crows feet soften and slowly disappear, yet everything seems very natural. In fact, most patients claim unless they reveal their secret, people around them don’t seem to notice . The results are not final because the injected muscles recover. It is recommended to return approximately every 3-6 months depending on the reappearance of wrinkles.

What are my risks?

Let’s say you try Botox and then decide to stop, what will happen? Several rumors suggest that once you have used Botox, you will have to do injections for the rest of your life and that if you stop, your face will look wrinkled and your features will sag worse than they had before. Well I have good news! This is not true at all. If you stop, your face comes back as before, and facial muscles regain their normal strength. However, the fact of not doing some movements with your face for a certain period of time will result in less pronounced wrinkles over time, than would have been under normal circumstances. You’ve probably seen stars who don’t look so natural and you say: “You can see that she has had Botox done.” In fact, it is probably more than Botox in these cases, such as several cosmetic surgeries, but what is important for Botox, is dosage. Patients usually want a natural result. The reality is that it is not your forehead creases that show your emotions or expressions, it is your voice, your eyes, your smile etc. In addition, Botox applies only to the upper part of the face. Botox side effects are very rare and always reversible, and nothing is final if you don’t like the result.

Overall, Botox can have some very amazing results for someone who is looking for youthful and more radiant looking skin. In the end, it helps prevent future wrinkles, smooths the appearance of current wrinkles, and has the ability to lift the brow and open the eyes. The ideal result can be communicated to your injector and combined with his or her recommendation. It is important for you to create a trusting relationship with the injector, and to have a full consultation to ensure you understand the treatment and how it may work for you, and to see if other treatments can be combined or offered as an alternative.

Reduce Wrinkles and Restore Lost Volume: Advanced Radiesse Formulation Works Two Ways

Reduce Wrinkles and Restore Lost Volume: Advanced Radiesse Formulation Works Two Ways

Youve spent your life caring for your face, pampering it with gentle washes, nourishing moisturizers and the occasional exfoliant. Now, youve reached your 50s or 60s, or maybe youre even still in your 40s, and how does your face pay you back? WHAM! With marionette lines, saggy jowls, deep lines around your nose and a hollowed-out area around your cheeks and temples. Suddenly, your midface region is sliding downward like an ice cream sundae on a hot summers day, and its dragging the rest of your face along for the ride.

Not so long ago, putting the brakes on midface aging and reversing the effects it causes meant a surgical face lift procedure with a lot of bruising and downtime, not to mention some pretty substantial discomfort. But today, dermal fillers are helping millions of women and men turn back the clock on facial aging, offering a far simpler (and safer) way to reduce lines and wrinkles, restore lost volume in the lip area, and even plump up sagging skin in the cheeks and temples. The result: A more youthful, rejuvenated appearance without the need for incisions, sutures and anesthesia and without post-op downtime. There are plenty of fillers to choose from today, but for midface rejuvenation, Radiesse is one of the best.

How Long Does Radiesse Last?

In addition to offering immediate restoration of lost volume by plumping up lines, depressions and hollowed-out areas, the tiny CaHA microparticles contained in Radiesse also work to stimulate the production of natural collagen, one of the most important building blocks of firm, youthful skin. When were young, collagen fibers form strong networks that help skin stay firm and resilient. Its these collagen networks that enable youthful skin to bounce back when touched, and they also help repel lines and wrinkles. But as we get older, our skin produces far less collagen than it used to, and that means its physiologically more inclined to form wrinkles, lines and creases, simply because a lot of that natural elasticity has been lost. Radiesse microparticles work inside the skin structure to ramp up natural collagen production, resulting in new collagen networks that help skin continue to appear plumper, firmer and more resilient over time. That means even as the CaHA breaks down and is absorbed by the body, you can continue to enjoy great results and smoother, more youthful-looking skin for a year or more after your initial treatment.

Is Radiesse just for the face?

No, Radiesse injections can also be used to help plump up hands, helping to replace volume lost due to aging so hands dont look veiny, bony and old. Your hands take the same environmental beating as your face, plus you spend lots of time washing your hands (and maybe doing dishes too). That means your hands are exposed to harsh detergents all day long, speeding up the aging process thats triggered by years of sun exposure. Like your face, your hands wind up losing the collagen networks that once helped them look and feel plump and firm. Radiesse injections bring the same benefits to aging hands, restoring volume so your hands regain a more youthful appearance.

What Happens During Radiesse Treatment?

Before Radiesse is injected, your face will be carefully evaluated to determine the best placement for the filler so you can achieve the results youre looking for. Depending on your treatment goals, multiple injections sites may be used to get the best effects. Once those sites are identified, the skin will be gently cleansed, and the Radiesse formulation will be injected using fine needles for minimal discomfort. A topical anesthetic or lidocaine can be used to numb the area for greater comfort in patients who are especially sensitive.

At Florida Aesthetics and Medical Weight Loss, all injectors are board certified so you can feel completely confident in your results. Most treatments take a half hour or less to complete, and theres no downtime, so you can go back to your regular activities immediately afterward.

How Does Radiesse Work?

Radiesse uses a special formulation of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, tiny particles that provide immediate volume to plump up areas of lost volume and fill in lines and wrinkles from beneath the skins surface.

As an FDA-approved midface filler, Radiesse is a true workhorse with plenty of applications: Its ideal for filling in lines and folds around the nose and mouth and to eliminate marionette lines, those deep creases that extend from the corners of the mouth down along the chin. As a temples filler, it helps revitalize tired-looking eyes. Plus, its an ideal choice to revive youthful plumpness to the cheeks and the pre-jowl area along the sides of the face, helping to gently lift the lower jowl area for a sleeker, more youthful profile.

Is Radiesse the best solution for all facial rejuvenation needs?

Not necessarily; there are plenty of dermal fillers on the market today, each with its own special formulations and benefits. Scheduling a personal consultation is the best way to find out if Radiesse is a good choice for you, or if another filler might offer the results youre looking for. Collagen, the secret behind healthy skin

Collagen, the secret behind healthy skin

Our skin is a complex organ that serves as the first layer of protection against any potential harm.  What keeps it youthful, firm, and toned is collagen.  Collagen is found in the middle layer of skin, as well as in our bones.  It provides structure and support to the extent that it makes up most of the skin.  This protein protects us from wrinkles and fine lines.  As we get older, however, collagens ability to keep us looking youthful diminishes.  Why?

  1. Production slows with age
  2. Sun damage reduces its efficacy
  3. Smoking
  4. Oxidative stress from exposure to pollution and UV radiation

Fortunately, these factors dont mean the end of your youthful appearance.  Different procedures help slow down the degeneration of collagen and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.  Below are some basic facts about two different procedures that address the issue of skin aging and damage.

Microneedling:

  • Also known as skin needling
  • Minimally-invasive and non-surgical
  • Uses a pen-shaped medical device with tiny needles to penetrate the skin at very high speeds
  • Rebuilds elasticity
  • Stimulates skin cell production
  • Results in the formation of new tissue layers of collagen and elastin

Laser Skin Tightening:

  • Non-invasive light treatment
  • Little or no recovery time
  • Uses laser to tighten your skin simply and effectively
  • Revitalizes your appearance

Both microneedling and laser skin tightening are safe and effective procedures to treat signs of aging that result from decreased collagen production.  If youre interested in learning more about how to maintain a youthful appearance and collagen production, talk to our aesthetician at Florida Aesthetics today! Results may vary depending on the individual.

Men can get rid of wrinkles too!

Men can get rid of wrinkles too!

The ever-popular Botox used to treat wrinkles, frown lines, and various medical conditions is now attracting more diverse groups of people.  Whereas its been known to target middle-aged and older women, it is now focusing more on men, and even those younger folks who have only just begun to develop wrinkles.  More and more men are turning to Botox to treat their visible signs of aging.  Why?

  1. Its easy
  2. No visible signs of treatment
  3. Works effectively
  4. Can be done quickly

Regardless of how busy you are with work, Botox treatment is something you can fit into your schedule.  And it works almost automatically!  The injection, which contains botulinum toxin A, a compound that paralyzes muscles that move, effectively preventing your face from showing wrinkles when you smile, frown, or show surprise.  Within 24-72 hours of treatment, you will notice a change in visible wrinkles, and the effect lasts for some time. Results may vary for each person, depending on the severity of wrinkles and the strength of muscles treated.

Botox injections for wrinkles have complete FDA approval since 2002, and have been used successfully on countless patients across the world.  Side effects depend on the individual, and may include headaches, swelling, and redness around the site of injection.  Choosing someone skilled in the process helps to ensure that the treatment is done correctly and with no problems.  Our aestheticians are properly trained in Botox injections, and can perform your treatment effectively and in a short amount of time.  If youre interested in learning more about Botox injections for yourself or male friends or relatives, talk to our consultants at Florida Aesthetics today!

What is Microneedling?

What is Microneedling?

One way to treat your skin for various conditions and signs of aging without resorting to the most extreme forms of treatment is to undergo a procedure called microneedling.  This skin treatment is a minimally invasive and nonabrasive procedure that works to effectively take care of your skin concerns and to give you the glowing complexion that you deserve.  It is used to treat issues such as wrinkles, stretch marks, sagging skin, pigmentation, and scars that come from various sources.  It has been proven to work and may be repeated multiple times depending on the condition being treated and its severity.  How does it work?

Microneedling involves a pen shaped medical device that penetrates the skin with fine needles very rapidly to create controlled skin injury.  This procedure allows the skin to rebuild its elasticity.  It also signals skin cells to reproduce, which leads to the development of new layers of elastin and collagen.  As a result of these occurrences, skin texture, firmness, and hydration improve.  The procedure is well-tolerated, and requires protection from the sun.  Some of its benefits include:

    1. It works on all skin types
    2. It is cost effective
    3. It does not damage the epidermis
    4. Recovery time, compared to laser resurfacing and dermabrasion, is minimal.

Microneedling is a great, effective, and minimally invasive procedure that can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions.  It takes between five minutes and an hour, depending on the condition being treated, and is very practical to do.  Minimal recovery time is required for patients who undergo the procedure, and side effects are not severe. Results may vary in every particular case (depending on your skin condition, age etc.).  For more information on this wonderful procedure, please contact Florida Aesthetics and Medical Weight Loss today to talk to one of our licensed medical practitioners.
